The ever-changing moods of the Exe Estuary

I often take my rescue dog Teddy for his favourite walks along the Exe. He bounds about chasing scents and is ever hopeful of finding a fish. He loves to chase after balls and splash in the water before lying in the water! The sky may be clear, throwing light and shade on to the hills, but within minutes it can change dramatically and so we beat a hasty retreat. I take some quick photos on my phone but turn to pmj.photos (my husband and son) for perfect reference shots.

I also enjoy painting en plein air, though it can be a challenge with what seems to be all the seasons in one day! However, the minute by minute weather shifts feel like pure magic for artists. One moment sunshine dances on the water, then sudden gusts of wind, light rain or rolling mists take over. The water's mood varies wildly too. On a calm incoming tide it can be crystal clear, revealing the sandy bottoms, whereas with an outgoing tide, rain or storms can churn it up, leaving silver streaked puddles. Settled days bring glassy reflections, while rough seas create opaque textured moods.

I have tried to paint and create a varied display of seascapes, each very different and showing that whatever the weather just how great our Devon coast and estuary is. I hope you enjoy browsing my efforts! If you are inspired to go and check out the Exe Estuary, don't be surprised if you see me, umbrella in one hand and paintbrush in the other, working on my next painting. Do come up and say hello.
